Splódar Theatre Company in Manorhamilton presents “The Factory Girls” by Frank Mc Guinness, a story of the harsh working life of women in a shirt factory in Donegal in 1982.
Faced with a threat to their jobs, the women take matters into their own hands. They decide not to be beaten down but rather to stand against the odds.
On the 100 year anniversary of the movement towards women gaining the right to vote, this is a timely production. The author wrote that he ‘wanted to write a play that celebrated the working class culture of women in the part of Donegal I grew up in’ and his characters are lovingly and warmly crafted, based on people he knew including his family.
We witness relationships build between the women and the personal growth of individual characters. The plays witty dialogue performed by a superb cast under the directorship of Prin Duignan makes “The Factory Girls” a show not to be missed
